Are you interested in starting or advancing your career with New York State? Buffalo Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting experienced Licensed Practical Nurses to serve as Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.
As a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1, under the direction of a registered nurse, you will supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and unlicensed direct care staff as well as provide nursing care consistent with individual treatment plans including:
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1 if they have:
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1 eligible list.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
After 1 year as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1, SG-11, you will automatically advance to the Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 2, SG-13, without further examination.

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA ISU Grade 11 ($47,695), an Increase Hiring Rate ($6,144), and Geographic Pay Differential ($4,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($58,447), and Geographic Pay Differential ($4,000).

As a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1, under the direction of a registered nurse, you will supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and unlicensed direct care staff as well as provide nursing care consistent with individual treatment plans including:
- Observing, monitoring, and recording changes in health status and/or responses to medications
- Administering medications
- Attending to individuals’ personal care needs including daily living and hygiene tasks
- Scheduling and assigning basic care tasks to staff to support nursing care and treatment
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1 if they have:
- License and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State and
- 1 year of experience providing nursing care and treatment services to individuals under the supervision of a registered nurse; assisting with the implementation of treatment plans; administering, observing, and recording medication management; educating and counseling individuals and families regarding illnesses, medications, tests, and treatment goals and procedures; monitoring and recording individuals progress; and supervising direct care staff.
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1 eligible list.

- If you fail to maintain your license and/or registration once you are appointed, action will be taken to remove you from the position.
- In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
- If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
